What is IP Geolocation?

IP geolocation is the process of determining the physical location of a device based on its IP address. Every device that connects to the internet is assigned an IP address by its internet service provider (ISP), and these addresses are allocated to specific geographic regions.

When you use this lookup tool, we check the IP address against our geolocation database to find information like the country, city, timezone, and internet service provider associated with that address. This data is useful for understanding where internet traffic originates, verifying VPN connections, or simply checking what location websites see when you visit them.

Keep in mind that IP geolocation shows where your internet connection appears to be located, not necessarily your exact physical address. Your ISP may route your traffic through a regional hub in a nearby city, which is why the detected city might differ from where you're actually sitting.

What is my IP address?
Your IP address is shown automatically when you complete the verification above. It's the unique identifier assigned to your device by your internet service provider.
How accurate is IP geolocation?
IP geolocation is typically accurate to the city level in well-connected regions. Country-level accuracy exceeds 99%. However, VPNs, proxies, and mobile networks can affect accuracy.
Why does my location show a different city?
Your IP is assigned by your ISP and may be registered to their regional hub rather than your exact location. This is normal and doesn't mean the data is wrong—it reflects where your internet traffic appears to originate.
Can I lookup any IP address?
Yes! Enter any valid IPv4 or IPv6 address in the input field. Private/local IPs (like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x) won't have geolocation data as they're not routable on the public internet.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes, this tool is completely free for manual lookups. If you need programmatic access for your applications, check out our IP Geolocation API with 2,000 free requests per month.
Do you store my searches?
No. We don't log or store your IP lookup queries. This tool is designed for quick, private lookups without tracking.
